Barrymore: Obama’s speech was ‘incredible’

Actress Drew Barrymore, who’s promoting a new movie and now planning a wedding, has had a busy month. But she still sat down to watch President Obama give his State of the Union address on Tuesday.

“I thought his speech was incredible,” Barrymore told POLITICO at the Washington premiere of “Big Miracle” on Wednesday. The actress, wearing a floor-length patterned dress and her new engagement ring, praised Obama’s accomplishments, saying, “I think extraordinary things are being done.”

Hesitant to share more of her opinions (unlike some other celebs who come into town) Barrymore said, “I don’t want to be hated for my political beliefs, I have them, but I’m not going to stand on a political soapbox.”

The one issue Barrymore does speak up about, however, is voting. The actress directed a documentary about youth voting called “The Best Place to Start” in 2004, which she plans to re-release this year. (Politico/McDevitt)
