LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Police say Paris Hilton has been arrested for possession of cocaine after officers stopped the car she was in on a Las Vegas street late Friday night.
Public Information officer Marcus Martin says Hilton was booked into the Clark County Detention Center early Saturday morning on a charge of possession of cocaine.
He says she was in a car driven by a friend that was stopped when officers noticed what they suspected to be marijuana smoke coming from it.
Martin says that during the stop officers found what appeared to be a controlled substance on Hilton and tests showed that it was cocaine.
He says he doesn’t know how much of the drug was found.
Las Vegas police Lt. Wayne Holman says that Hilton was still being held around 2 a.m. Saturday. He says she will probably be released on her own recognizance later in the morning.

Paris Hilton‘s lawyer, David Chernoff, just released this statement regarding Paris’ arrest:
“Paris Hilton was released this morning on her own recognizance. This matter will be dealt with in the courts not in the media and I encourage people not to rush to judgment until all of the facts have been dealt with in a court of law. There will be no interviews and no more comments at this time.”
